Shutdown of Rainbow Six Mobile Announced

Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Mobile will shut down in January 2027, highlighting challenges in the mobile gaming market.

Ubisoft has announced that Rainbow Six Mobile will shut down in January 2027, just seven months after its global launch. The game, which was officially released in February 2026, generated nearly $1.6 million globally in its first two weeks. However, its early momentum quickly slowed down, indicating the difficulties of translating a major franchise into a successful mobile game. The development of Rainbow Six Mobile took six and a half years, involving collaboration from 11 Ubisoft studios and Tencent. Despite having an established fanbase, the challenge remains in converting that appeal into a sustainable mobile experience. Ubisoft stated that while they are proud of the work done by the team, they will now focus on other long-term strategic projects. This situation serves as a reminder of the intense competition in the mobile gaming sector, where success is not guaranteed even for well-known franchises.
