Xbox has announced that starting in November 2026, it will implement monthly time limits on its cloud gaming service for Game Pass subscribers. Depending on the subscription tier, Ultimate subscribers will have 15 hours of cloud gaming per month, Premium users will have 10 hours, and Essential users will be limited to 5 hours. This decision comes in response to the significant increase in the costs associated with providing cloud gaming services. Xbox stated that as more users engage with the service, the costs of maintaining it have risen. The new policy is expected to affect approximately 4% of all Game Pass subscribers. Notably, Xbox will also allow players to purchase cloud gaming hours through the Xbox Store without requiring a Game Pass subscription. In contrast, Sony currently does not impose any monthly limits on its cloud gaming service, while NVIDIA's GeForce NOW restricts users to 100 hours of cloud gaming per month. This shift indicates a growing competitive landscape in the cloud gaming market, which may influence player choices and experiences.
